AUSTRALIAN EDUCATION SYSTEM

Australian Education System

Like every other country Australia too has its definitive educational structure which provides different levels of education at different places.

Universities since they are the largest educational institutes provide the whole gamut of courses which include Bachelors, Graduate Diplomas, Post Graduation, Research Programs or PhDs.

TAFE institutes provide vocational training, so that students are able to acquire higher qualifications and make a swift transition from education to work. They hand out Diplomas, Advanced Diplomas and Associate Degrees at the close of their training.

Colleges on the other hand offer Certificate and Diploma courses.

Programs and their eligibilities:

For PG Programs: The student needs to be a graduate from a recognized university with IELTS score no less than overall 6.0 bands.

For UG Programs: 10+2 or equivalent from a recognized board or some similar institution with IELTS scores no less than overall 6.0 bands.

For Diplomas: 10+2 or equivalent from a recognized institution with IELTS scores no less than 5.5 bands overall and sub scores should not be less than 5.0 bands each.

Visa for Australia:

Students travelling to Australia for studies need to apply for an appropriate student visa, as there are different visas offered to different students. A primary or secondary school student’s visa is different from the visa offered to a student of vocational education or a student of postgraduate research. Thus one should carefully analyse as to which category they fit in.

To begin with, a student must be accepted for a full-term study in a registered course by a registered organization (under Commonwealth Register of Institutions and Courses for Overseas Students). Besides submitting the essential documents at the time of applying for the visa, one must fulfil the following criteria to be eligible for a student’s visa:

  • Sound Financial capacity (ability to pay for the air fare, tuition fee and living costs)
  • Proficiency in English
  • Be of good character
  • Be of sound health
  • Have a health insurance cover
  • Have no pending debt to the Commonwealth of Australia or have made provisions to repay the same
