Skilled Visa

Australia has a migration program that aims to attract qualified professionals from all over the world: The General Skilled Migration Program. This program allows certain professionals to apply for permanent or temporary visas and move to Australia, to live and work here.Those professionals must have occupations being sought by the Australian government and meet several requirements in terms of their age, qualifications, work experience and proficiency in English

There are 3 visas within this program

1. Subclass 189 Skilled Independent Permanent Visa

  • The Skilled Independent visa (Subclass 189) is a permanent work visa for individuals who have the qualifications and experience required to fill Australia’s skill shortages.
  • Skilled Independent visa (Subclass 189) applicants are must obtain a minimum of 65 points on a points assessment.
  • Applicants must be under 45 years of age and be able to demonstrate that they have the qualifications and skills for an occupation listed on the Medium and Long-term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL).
  • Applicants for the Skilled Independent visa (Subclass 189) do not require sponsorship

2. Subclass 190 Skilled State-Nomination Permanent Visa

  • The Skilled Nominated visa (Subclass 190) is a permanent work visa for individuals who have the qualifications or skills needed by the Australian economy but do not meet the pass mark required to obtain a Skilled Independent Visa.
  • To apply for a Skilled Nominated visa (Subclass 190), applicants must pass the points assessment with a minimum of 65 points and they must obtain a nomination from a participating State or Territory government.
  • Applicants must be under 45 years of age and be able to demonstrate that they have a qualification or the skills for an occupation on the Skilled Occupation List (SOL).

3. Subclass 491 Skilled Regional Temporary Visa

The new 491 visa, Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) subclass 491 visawill enable eligible skilled workers and their families to live, work and study in designated regional areas of Australia for 5 years. Visa holders will be eligible to apply for a Permanent Residence visa after three Applicants for this visa must be nominated by:

an Australian state or territory government agency orsponsored by an eligible family member residing in a designated regional area and be invited to apply for the visa, following submission of an Expression of Interest (EOI) in SkillSelect
